Fullerton set for Stanford Regional

Cal State Fullerton, which received the Big West Conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball playoffs due to conference champion UC San Diego not being eligible due to its recent admission to Division I, has been assigned to the Stanford Regional.

The double-elimination format will see one team advance to the Super Regionals.

Joining Fullerton are:

  • Stanford (Pac-12)
  • San José State (Mountain West)
  • Texas A&M (Big 12)

Fullerton opens Regional play this Friday at 7 p.m. against Texas A&M.

Fullerton lone SoCal rep in Div I NCAAs

Cal State Fullerton is the lone Division I school from Southern California to get a bid to the NCAA Division I baseball regionals, the lead-up to the annual College World Series.

Fullerton received the Big West’s automatic bid after it finished in 2nd place behind U.C. San Diego – which is in year 3 of its blackout period after jumping from Division II. The Big West is the last Division I conference that does not have a postseason tournament to determine its automatic NCAA qualifier.

San José State University won the Mountain West Conference tournament, and is the sole representative from that conference. And Santa Clara got the lone bid from the West Coast Conference.

In the Pac-12, there were five bids, but neither UCLA nor USC received one, leaving, as mentioned, Fullerton as the sole Southern California team with a chance at the College World Series.

We’ll follow the regionals here as long as Fullerton is alive.

Division I conference tourneys starting

As the college baseball regular season winds down, NAIA and NCAA Division II and III schools are already into their regional playoffs. The NCAA Division I schools are either heading into their conference tourneys this week, or wrapping up their final regular season series.

We’ll continue to post schedules and scores of any San Diego or Orange County schools that advance.

NAIA season winding up

The NAIA conferences have mostly completed their conference championships; NCAA Divs. II and III will be next. If any Orange County or San Diego County schools make it to their respective regionals, we will continue to follow those here.
