La Sierra University was originally founded in 1922 as La Sierra Academy, a Seventh-Day Adventist preparatory school. After being upgraded to a college (La Sierra College), in 1967 it was merged with Loma Linda University – serving as a satellite campus. In 1990 it was rededicated as La Sierra University – still part of the Seventh-Day Adventist system, but separate from Loma Linda.
The Golden Eagles began competing in intercollegiate baseball in 2011 – playing as an NAIA independent until 2016 when they joined the California Pacific Conference.
Home games are played on campus at La Sierra Baseball Field.
