Occidental College was founded in the Los Angeles area in 1887 by members of the Presbyterian Church, it was co-ed from its beginnings. In 1910 the school cut ties with the Presbyterian Church, and two years later began building its current campus.

Occidental began playing intercollegiate sports in 1894. In 1915, Occidental was a founding member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference – and is one of of only two original founding members that has never left.

The Tigers have never played in a College World Series.

Baseball Almanac lists five former Tigers who have made it to the Major Leagues – although none have since Grant Dunlap played in 15 games for the Cardinals in 1953. Dutch Hinrichs was the first, pitching in seven innings for the Washington Senators in 1910.

Home games are played on-campus at Anderson Field. Built in 1950 and modernized several times in the decades since, the bleachers hold just over 100.
