The California Institute of Technology was founded in Los Angeles by Amos G. Throop as a vocational school in 1891. Originally named Throop University, it was renamed Throop Polytechnic Institute and Manual Training School in 1907, and in 1913 as Throop College of Technology. It acquired its current name in 1920.

Caltech, as it is popularly known, began fielding an intercollegiate baseball team in 1948, playing in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletica Conference – of which the school’s predecessor had been a founding member in 1915.

No alumni have made it to the Major Leagues, and CalTech has never played in a College World Series of any level.

Home games are played on campus at North Field, a multi-purpose field that also includes two soccer fields.
