California State University, San Bernardino was created by the state legislature in 1960 as the San Bernardino-Riverside State College. Before it even held its first classes in 1965, state lawmakers changed its name to California State College at San Bernardino. In 1984, it was declared a university and acquired its current name.
The school only began competing in intercollegiate baseball in 1987. They played as an independent in the NCAA Division III their first five seasons, before joining the California Collegiate Athletic Association – where they have competed ever since.
The Coyotes played in the Div. III College World Series in 1990 and 1991.
Baseball Almanac lists three former Coyotes who have made it to the Major Leagues.
Home games are played at Fiscalini Field, about 7 miles southeast of campus. Originally built in 1936 as a spring training facility for the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Browns, the stadium has also hosted minor league affiliates and San Bernardino Valley College. The grandstands seat 3,500.
